Champaign Police investigate shooting that leaves 22-year-old man in critical condition

Champaign, IL – Champaign Police are investigating a shooting that left a 22-year-old man hospitalized in critical condition after an altercation in the 1300 block of Carver Drive.

The shooting happened Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at approximately 2:26 p.m., when METCAD 911 received multiple calls reporting shots fired and a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Responding officers found the victim suffering from a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Police initially received the call as an Urbana address but quickly determined that the shooting occurred in Champaign. The Champaign Police Department took over the investigation.

According to preliminary information, an altercation occurred at the scene before shots were fired and the victim was struck. The other person or people involved fled the area on foot.

No arrests had been made, and the investigation remained ongoing.
