Road closures near Illini Hall extended into 2027 as construction continues

Champaign, IL – Road closures on John Street and Wright Street in Champaign have been extended into 2027 to facilitate construction at Illini Hall, located at 725 S. Wright Street.

Williams Brothers Construction and A&R Services implemented the closures, which began Monday, Aug. 24, 2026.

John Street is closed between Wright Street and Sixth Street, while Wright Street is closed between Green Street and John Street.

Local traffic and MTD bus traffic will still be permitted on the affected section of Wright Street.

The closures will remain in place through Friday, Sept. 3, 2027, according to the City of Champaign.

Access to all local properties will be maintained throughout the construction period.
