27-year-old man arrested after argument on Summit Ridge Road allegedly led to shooting that left victim hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries
Champaign, IL – A 27-year-old Champaign man is in custody following a shooting that left another man injured Friday afternoon, according to the Champaign Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Providence Circle at approximately 12:33 p.m. on May 23, 2026, after receiving reports of a shooting with injuries.
When officers arrived, they located a 28-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers and members of the Champaign Fire Department provided emergency medical aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an encounter in the 1400 block of Summit Ridge Road involving the victim and 27-year-old Travon Brize. During the interaction, an argument reportedly occurred before Brize allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim.
Police said the injured man fled the area seeking help before officers located him on Providence Circle. Brize was later found and arrested a short time afterward in the 1400 block of Summit Ridge Road.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue searching for witnesses and surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
