Camp Fury gives young women hands-on experience with Champaign Police specialized units

Champaign, IL – Young women participating in Camp Fury spent the day at the Champaign Police Department, taking part in hands-on activities designed to introduce them to careers in law enforcement and public safety.
According to the department, participants rotated through several interactive experiences, including a science lesson with the Crime Scene Unit, a SWAT team obstacle course, a Crisis Negotiation lesson, defensive tactics training, and time in the department’s tactical simulator.
Campers also attended a session focused on mental health for first responders and heard remarks from the Champaign Police chief about careers in public safety.
The Champaign Police Department said the activities gave participants an inside look at the skills, teamwork, and responsibilities involved in modern policing.
Camp Fury is a high-adventure program that immerses young women in the worlds of law enforcement and fire service through hands-on training and educational experiences.
The program is being hosted this week at locations across the Champaign-Urbana area by women from local police and fire departments under the leadership of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois.
Officials said the initiative aims to inspire young women to explore future careers in public safety while building confidence, leadership skills, and teamwork through real-world experiences.
