City of Champaign announces appointment of new fire chief

Champaign, IL – The City of Champaign announced that Interim Fire Chief Tyler Funk has been appointed to serve as the city’s next Fire Chief, effective November 19.

City Manager Joan Walls praised Chief Funk for his leadership and dedication to the department, calling him “an exemplary public servant who will be central to our Fire Department’s future growth.”

Walls added that Funk is “well-respected throughout the state” and described him as “forward-thinking, community-focused, and results-oriented.”

She expressed confidence that he is the right person to lead both the current and next generation of Champaign firefighters.

The City congratulated Chief Funk on his appointment and looks forward to his continued service and leadership.
