Lane closure planned on Randolph Street as work begins at Champaign Fire Station No. 1

Champaign, IL – A lane closure will begin Monday on Randolph Street in Champaign as contractors start rebuilding the parking lot and sidewalk at Fire Station No. 1.

Feutz Contractors, Inc. is scheduled to begin the work on Aug. 31 at the fire station, located at 307 S. Randolph St. The project is part of the city’s 2026 Infrastructure Maintenance Project.

The construction will require a lane closure on Randolph Street between Springfield Avenue and White Street. The closure is expected to remain in place through Friday, Sept. 18, weather permitting.

During the project, access to Fire Station No. 1 will be provided from Cottage Court on the back side of the building.

The city said access to all adjacent properties will remain open while the construction is underway.

The work will include rebuilding the station’s parking lot as well as the sidewalk leading up to the front door of the fire station.

Drivers traveling through the area should be prepared for the lane closure and possible delays while crews work on the infrastructure improvements.

The project is scheduled to continue for nearly three weeks, with the completion date dependent on weather conditions.

The city advised residents and motorists to be aware of the temporary traffic restriction and construction activity in the area as the work gets underway.
