Champaign Fire Department announced spring 2026 fire academy training opportunities
Champaign, IL – The City of Champaign Fire Department announced upcoming training opportunities as part of the Spring 2026 Champaign Fire Academy, with additional space available for participants outside the academy class.
According to the department, the Hazardous Materials Operations course will be held May 18 through May 21, 2026, at the Cornbelt Fire Protection District in Mahomet. The course will include both hands-on and classroom instruction and is designed to meet certification requirements set by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
A second course, Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue, is scheduled for May 25 through May 29, 2026. Training will take place at the Cornbelt Fire Protection District as well as Reynolds Towing. This course will also combine practical and classroom instruction to meet state certification standards.
Officials said tuition for each course is $500 per student, and participants must be active members of a fire department within the State of Illinois to enroll.
