Champaign police offering free steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners

Champaign, IL – The Champaign Police Department is providing free steering wheel locks to owners of certain Kia and Hyundai vehicles as a theft prevention measure.

The locks are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the department’s front desk, located at 82 E. University Avenue in Champaign.

Any owner of a qualifying vehicle can claim a lock, regardless of their place of residence.

To qualify, residents must show proof of ownership of a Kia manufactured from 2011 to 2021 or a Hyundai manufactured between 2013 and 2021.

The department encourages eligible vehicle owners to take advantage of the program to help protect their vehicles.
