Champaign police detective retires after 28 years of service

Champaign, IL – Detective Jody Cherry retired from the Champaign Police Department on Aug. 28 after 28 years of service.

During his career, Cherry served in multiple roles, including as a Field Training Officer, on the bicycle unit, in the major crimes unit, and as a founding member of the CPD gym cadre, which promotes health and fitness among officers.

He also earned recognition as a Certified Technical Investigator with the National Technical Investigators Association.

Cherry received numerous awards throughout his career, including 22 departmental commendations, the Lifesaving Award, the Medal of Valor, and the Meritorious Service Award, reflecting his dedication and expertise in law enforcement.
