Champaign Police Department joins Kenwood students for Black History Month assembly

Champaign, IL – Champaign Unit 4 Schools reported that Kenwood students attended a Black History Month assembly featuring performances and guest speakers, including Tracy Parsons, Tim Tyler, and Dr. Gilo Kwesi Logan.

Dr. Logan spoke about his father’s book, Protecting a Dream, which chronicles his father’s life from 1932 in Evanston’s historically Black Fifth Ward, his career with the Evanston Police Department, and his work as a bodyguard for Martin Luther King Jr.

Officials said the assembly provided students with both educational and inspiring insights into Black history and civic service.
