Champaign Police Department recognized for fundraising efforts supporting Special Olympics

Champaign, IL – The Champaign Police Department was honored during the Special Olympics Kick-Off Conference on February 13 for its fundraising efforts in support of athletes across Illinois.

Officials said law enforcement statewide raised more than $5 million in 2025, with Champaign Police contributing $5,495, earning a bronze-level recognition.

Officer Watkins was praised for her leadership in coordinating the department’s involvement in the program.

The department thanked the community and its officers, noting the creative and dedicated ways they support Special Olympics events, from icy plunges to rooftop challenges.
