Champaign police investigate shooting that injured 18-year-old man on West Beardsley Avenue
Champaign, IL – Champaign police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old man injured on April 6, 2026, in the 400 block of West Beardsley Avenue, according to a department statement.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:04 p.m. after reports of a shooting with injuries in the area.
Upon arrival, they located an 18-year-old Champaign man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. Police and the Champaign Fire Department provided emergency medical care until the victim was transported to a local hospital.
He was later treated and released and is continuing to recover.
Investigators said the victim was outside when an unknown suspect or suspects opened fire. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
Officers continue to canvass the area for witnesses and surveillance footage and are asking residents and businesses with exterior security cameras to contact police if they may have relevant video.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department directly or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
